40th Anniversary
We are now in the fortieth year of operation. The actual opening date was the 17th October. All through the year we will be organising events ( click the link on the left to see these ). However as well as a celebration we have a fund raising objective. The front of the Barn is in a sad state of decay and so we have dedicated this year to raising sufficient finds in order to restore the front by cleaning and re-pointing the stonework.
BARN NEWS February-March 2010
Treasurers Report
As reported in the previous edition of Barn News, having spent many thousands of pounds upgrading the various aspects of the Barn, our cash situation is significantly much lower than it has been in previous years.
At the next Management Committee meeting decisions will be taken on whether we should plan to increase our reserves over the next couple of years.
The December Christmas market, in spite of bad weather, the recession and competition from neighbouring fairs, took just over £2,600 "on the day". Whilst this is a good sum, and thanks must be paid to all who contributed, it was about £900 less than last year.
Graphics Room
It is planned to turn the old upstairs darkroom (entered from Cleeve Room) into a graphics room, where Barn members would be able to access the equipment necessary to produce posters, leaflets, booklets, create stationary and work with photographs.
This is being set up initially to support the Social and Fund raising aspects of DFHA, however there is likely to be opportunities for groups or individuals to use the equipment for the benefit of clubs or the Barn. Training would be made available.
It is not seen that this use would be restricted to the benefit of the Barn, individuals may be able to use the items in order to print, or work on, holiday photographs etc. Obviously personal work would not be free.
As this project progresses there may also be possibilities for individuals to learn about the internet, e-mailing etc
In the first instance Michael Hilbome is the individual to contact, either by leaving a message in the Office, or e-mail to
